IMG 6481As President of the SCSU Mediation Club, I had the incredible opportunity to lead our members in marching alongside Southern Connecticut State University at the vibrant Bridgeport's 32nd Annual Juneteenth Parade & Harambee Festival.

Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, marks the day news of slavery's abolition finally reached enslaved people in Texas, the last Confederate state to do so. It's a day filled with celebration, reflection, and a renewed commitment to racial equality.

For me, participating in the Juneteenth parade wasn't just about celebrating freedom. It was a powerful reminder of the ongoing fight for justice, and how the core values of mediation deeply connect to that fight.

Jon Standing with GloriaSouthern Connecticut State University sophomore Jonathan De Los Santos left a mark on the 23rd Annual Mary and Louis Fusco Distinguished Lecture on Saturday, April 27th. Not only was De Los Santos, founder and president of the SCSU Mediation Club and Vice President of the SGA Board of Student Experience, present for the headlining conversation with Gloria Estefan, but he also had the chance to connect with the legendary singer about his own endeavors.

De Los Santos, a passionate advocate for positive change, spoke with Estefan about his non-profit organization, Human Systemics Inc. Their recently published book, "Why Things Don't Work," by Brock Hotaling explores the organization's new methodology, Human Systemics™, aiming to empower everyday people to understand complex issues. The book delves into the critical role of dismantling "false agendas and myths" and highlights Human Systemics™ as a potential tool to reverse inefficiency and wasted resources.

Group photoThe Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) campus now has a new resource for students seeking to hone their conflict resolution skills and learn about the power of mediation. Jonathan De Los Santos Founder and President of the Mediation Club aims to provide a welcoming space for members to explore the theory and practice of mediation while fostering a more peaceful and collaborative campus environment.

The club recently held its inaugural event, which focused on the role of mediation in halting the brutal conflict in Liberia. The event featured a screening of the documentary "Pray the Devil Back to Hell," by Nobel Peace Prize recipient Leymah Gbowee followed by a panel discussion with Sally Massaquoi, a survivor of the war, and Henri Wilson, a Liberian immigrant. This powerful event highlighted the real-world impact of mediation in resolving complex international conflicts.

NH Mental Health Day Flyer

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and New Haven is proud to host its annual Mental Health Day on Saturday, May 25th, from 2 pm to 5 pm at the Q House on Dixwell Ave. This year's event features a collaboration between Mental Harmony, a non-profit dedicated to providing mental health resources and support in Black and Hispanic communities, and Jonathan De Los Santos of Human Systemics Inc.

De Los Santos, an advocate for mental health awareness and support, will be bringing his passion and expertise to the event. Human Systemics Inc. focuses on empowering individuals and communities to improve their mental well-being using innovative approaches like the Human Systems Will Building Tool and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Their participation promises valuable insights for attendees seeking to enhance their mental health.
